Center for Faith and Work
AUG. 16, 2016

Dear {first},

As the summer heat of August hits us, we hope that you’ve been able to find a cool place to consider the coming year and what it means to be called to the work you engage day-in and day-out. If you’re like many and haven’t had these opportunities, we invite you to participate in our newly redesigned Faith & Work Courses—an introductory 6-Week Faith & Work Class and intermediate 12-Week Faith & Work Intensive.

In these cross-vocational courses, you will learn how to apply theological content and biblical truths to everyday work life, creating a more meaningful vision and sustainable integration of faith & work. During the courses, through smaller vocation-based cohorts, we’ll consider how the gospel challenges common industry idols, explore what Scripture has to say about the tensions inherent in our work, and imagine innovative ways to address areas of brokenness in our fields. Registration is now open for these opportunities.

We hope you will consider spending your fall deepening your vocational calling with us at CFW.

Sincerely,

David H. Kim, Executive Director, Center for Faith & Work

EXPERIENCE

REDESIGNED FAITH & WORK COURSES

How does the gospel transform your everyday work? CFW has redesigned all of our courses to provide a more effective means of growing in meaningful faith and work integration. There are two main offerings under the umbrella of F&W Courses: 1) F&W Class (6-week introductory level) and 2) F&W Intensives (12-week intermediate level). These two courses are meant to be taken in sequence and provide a rich Biblical overview of the significance of work followed by a more intensive experience integrating theological and spiritual formation in the context of a committed community (similar to our Gotham program). Both of these courses are cross-vocational. We are currently in process of redesigning our vocation specific courses which will build upon these two F&W Courses and hope to have that available next year. We are very excited by these changes as we believe this will bring a deeper transformation in the way we view and experience our day-to-day work. More>

ANNOUNCING THE 2017 GOTHAM FELLOWSHIP CLASS

Beginning in September, 43 fellows from various fields will spend nine-months committed to each others’ spiritual growth and calling to serve the common good of the city. More>

2016 FAITH & WORK CONFERENCE:
RATES INCREASE AUGUST 31

Visit the NEW Faith & Work Conference website! Join us as we examine the future of work and develop new thought around this year's theme, The Wonder and Fear of Technology, on November 11-12, 2016. Technology – both theoretically and practically – has staked its claim in our cultural moment. It is here to stay. This dominance has fostered much positive innovation, yet also exposed a great deal of fear and anxiety about our future, prodding the theological realm for greater nuance and application. Is technology inherently at odds with tradition? Secure your spot with the lowest rate before August 31. More>

COVENANT AS THE FOUNDATION OF A RENEWED COMMUNITY

How does God’s covenantal nature challenge us in considering the integral importance of community in our lives? Professor Mary Vanden Berg gives a theological overview of the Biblical concept of covenant as a central and critical theme in redemptive history.
