Dear {first},
The problem with work is not that we expect too much from it but rather too little. When we begin to understand God’s intention for our work, our perspective on it begins to shift dramatically. Work was meant to be the expression of our identity and through the gospel, God is at work to enliven souls that often feel contracted or deadened. Our conviction for this year’s CFW theme, The Soul of Work, is that from the fullness of our being, emerges a fullness in our work. This year’s theme will build upon the conviction that work was meant to engage the fullness of our humanity and the gospel has set before us a hope that can deepen our motivations and broaden our vision for why we work.
In September’s kickoff event, I described two ways our souls can be awakened and enlivened—through deepening prayer and through suffering. During the winter months, CFW is offering a prayer course entitled Real Life Prayer, which includes a four-month online Faith & Work Prayer Journey beginning November 15th and three in-person prayer nights facilitated by Lourine Clark and myself. The online course is designed to strengthen your daily prayer life and includes devotionals and practicums, providing greater context and teaching to deepen the understanding and discipline of prayer, particularly with respect to the work place. Register HERE to join us on this four-month prayer journey.
Our first Faith & Work Prayer Night will take place on December 8 and will focus on Overcoming Obstacles to Prayer. You are welcome to join us even if you choose not to take the online course. Faith & Work Prayer Nights are evenings that combine teaching, worship and prayer to deepen our fellowship with God and with others and experience the life-giving hope of the gospel in our work. Sincerely,
David H. Kim, Executive Director, Center for Faith & Work

NICHOLAS KRISTOF, TIM KELLER AND JOHN INAZU:
CIVILITY IN THE PUBLIC SQUARE
Christian faith demands a high view of human beings. If Christians are indeed called to compassionately steward our respective polities, then we are also called to a kind of civic engagement that wisely assesses our state of affairs with the type of nuance that transcends a liberal/conservative divide. Our public discourse, then, requires conversation over obstruction, vulnerability over combativeness, diversity, sacrifice and humility. In short, our civic lives require civic love. Hear Nicholas Kristof (Pulitzer Prize winning NY Times columnist), John Inazu (author of Confident Pluralism), and best-selling author and pastor Tim Keller discuss rediscovering civility and dignity in the public square.
