JAN. 5, 2016
Dear {first},

Healthy rhythms of work and rest are necessary for enlivening our souls. But patterns that expand the soul of our work are often disrupted by the chaos of busy holidays. The new year is an opportunity to cultivate healthy practices of work and rest. Sabbath resets our spiritual rhythms. Ceasing work must be part of our routine. Rest is needed for work to flourish.

This winter, CFW has three opportunities to establish patterns of work and rest. First, begin your year with this worksheet to develop a Sabbath plan. Take time to consider what hinders you from setting your work aside in rest. Second, consider joining us in our 6-week winter Faith & Work Class. The course weaves together spiritual practices, biblical teaching, and group discussion to examine our relationship with work.

Finally, this winter we invite you join us for our first Soul of Work Retreat. This weekend of refreshment is designed for rest and the development of spiritual rhythms that will integrate into the working lives of New Yorkers.

As the work of the new year begins, may your soul rest upon the work of Christ,

David H. Kim,
Executive Director, Center for Faith & Work

EXPERIENCE

THE SOUL OF WORK RETREAT:

DEVELOPING SPIRITUAL RHYTHMS OF REST

The unceasing buzz and din of New York can lead to the slow atrophy of our souls. We over-schedule. We under-rest. Our inner life atrophies. God’s still, small voice becomes imperceptible. We need rhythms that restore our relationship with God who enlivens the very soul from which we work. Join us for a weekend that focuses upon Spiritual rest, while connecting with others within and across vocational spheres. Through times of guided teaching and reflection, we’ll explore how the gospel provides a life-giving rest for our souls. More>

GROWING IN GOSPEL-CENTERED, SPIRIT-LED PRAYER

The second of our Faith & Work Prayer Nights will take place Thursday, January 26 and will focus on how Growing in Gospel-Centered, Spirit-Led Prayer increases our discernment to pray more effectively for our work. Prayer Nights are evenings of worship and prayer to seek God for spiritual strength in our workplaces. How can we rely on God through prayer to be strengthened and equipped for our daily work? AN EVENING WITH POET CHRISTIAN WIMAN

"What is it we want when we can’t stop wanting? I say God." Such core revelations are what comprise the latest work of world-renowned poet Christian Wiman. The intermingling of calling and desire, the inhering of the self in our work, the catalyzing hunger of longing -- these tensions form the high-wire of meditation that Wiman treads. On January 28, hear this critically acclaimed poet investigate the ineffable essence of God's calling in our daily lives in his brand new work, presented for the very first time, commissioned under CFW's inaugural Artist Fellowship.
