Center for Faith and Work
MAY 4, 2017

Dear {first},

The pace of New York City can feel relentless. We over-schedule. We under-rest. Add to that the tension of our cultural moment. We need more than ever a deep spirit and practice of Sabbath. How do the Scriptures reframe the imporance and need for this discipline?

At our next event, Sabbath in a Time of Unrest, I'm excited to have Judith Shulevitz join us for an important discussion that will bring insight and wisdom into how we might practice Sabbath in New York City. I first encountered Judith's insight in her New York Times Magazine piece, "Bring Back the Sabbath". Judith is also the author of The Sabbath World: Glimpses of a Different Order of Time described as "an opinionated history of one of the most important ideas in Western religious thought — that to thrive, societies must designate set times in which work stops and the rest of life occurs."

We hope you will join us on May 18 to explore how and why rest is essential to knowing God. Earlybird rates for this event are available until May 12.

Sincerely,

David H. Kim, Executive Director, Center for Faith & Work

CFW ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE EXPLORE "THE UNFINISHED WORK"

CFW is pleased to announce our Spring 2017 Artists-In-Residence: visual artist Jerry Dienes and performance artist Lea Fulton. The two artists were chosen from invited proposals that explored the idea of “The Unfinished Work”. Each resident artist is now in the process of creating a brand new work on that theme, as it’s uniquely expressed through their respective mediums. Fulton’s work will explore the theme through an immersive installation centered on the experience of forgiveness, where Dienes work will employ the trompe l’oeil painting technique to visually explore the theological territory of Tolkien’s famous short story “Leaf by Niggle.” More>
