Dear {first},
This month marks the culmination of our Gotham 2019 class’s experience with the Final Retreat over Memorial Day weekend, when the fellows gather together for the last time for prayer, fellowship, and commissioning. Our Faith and Work pastoral staff will guide our fellows in ways for them to transition from this nine month experience into applying what they have learned to their day to day lives.
Earlier this month, the Gotham Fellows presented Cultural Renewal Projects, which are project proposals that respond to a vision for how the gospel might renew an aspect of one’s workplace or industry. Projects from the fellows covered a wide range of topics such as parental leave equality, racial reconciliation in the church, and access to not-for-profit gym facilities for those with lower incomes. A final winner will be chosen over the Final Retreat.
After Memorial Day, our CFW staff will begin our summer research and planning. We ask that you pray for us as we seek God's direction, and we look forward to sharing with you what the next ministry year holds.
Scott Calgaro, Program Director, Center for Faith & Work

A TALK AND WORKSHOP ON HEALING THROUGH ART
Join us for a talk and workshop by CFW Artist-in-Residence Alumna Vesper Stamper. Stamper, an author and illustrator, discusses her National Book Award-nominated graphic novel, What The Night Sings, which traces the story of a teenage musician who survives the Holocaust and seeks to find her voice as a singer again. Vesper will be giving a talk about the book itself and her process. After the talk, she'll lead a hands-on workshop that will help us learn to really see others and demonstrate the ability for art to heal the brokenness between people. Tickets $10. More>
OPEN HANDS SPRING BENEFIT
WEDNESDAY, MAY 22
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of Open Hands Legal Services, a non-profit founded by members of CFW’s Legal Fellowship group that provides free legal services to low-income and homeless New Yorkers. The Open Hands mission is to uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed in New York. "We break down the legal barriers to their success, enabling individuals to flourish and embody the full persons God intended them to be,” says Board Member Jonathan Lee. Read more about The Open Hands story on our blog.
You don't have to be a lawyer to support the mission of Open Hands. Consider attending the Open Hands Spring Benefit on Wednesday, May 22. Find out more about the benefit here>.
THE ASIAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE
WITH MIN JIN LEE AND MICHAEL LUO
On May 22, join our friends at Redeemer’s Grace & Race for an event exploring the Asian American experience and how Asian Americans may possess a unique perspective to offer in movements seeking racial justice. The evening features celebrated author Min Jin Lee (Pachinko and Free Food for Millionaires), who spoke at CFW’s Gotham Imagination Saturday in March and Michael Luo, editor of newyorker.com, who was a featured speaker at CFW’s Soulful Work Lunch Series in 2017.
