HAS HOLIDAY
"POP-UP SHOP
FOR FREEDOM"

“Pop-up Shop for Freedom,” a homey, winter wonderland will open its doors from December 11 to 13, 2014 to bring awareness to human trafficking and modern day slavery while showcasing products made by Nomi Network.

The shop kicks off on December 11th, with a launch party on the 12th at 123 West 57th Street, steps away from Carnegie Hall and the landmark Salisbury Hotel.

Generously sponsored by Calvary Baptist Church and curated by Nomi Network’s team of fashion designers who have influenced brands like Ralph Lauren, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tommy Hilfiger to name a few. They represent the fashion community banning together to end human trafficking and empower women around the world.

There are 32 million slaves today and Nomi’s “Buy Her Bag, Not Her Body®” collection broadcasts the message that women and girls are not for sale. Since 2009, the vital organization has created training and job opportunities for survivors and women at risk of human trafficking. Nomi supporters include business executives, philanthropists, elected officials, celebrities, and social justice advocates.

“I am excited to welcome Nomi Network’s Pop-Up Shop for Freedom to our great city,” said Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12). “Nomi Network provides trafficking victims and those at risk a means to earn a living. By embracing these women and their work we are putting a spotlight on the problem in an accessible way, and providing much-needed income to victims of these horrific crimes. It is time for all of us to stand up and say that we refuse to sit idly by while women and girls are exploited and abused, and if we can take care of some holiday shopping at the same time, all the better.”

“Thanks to Manhattan’s Calvary Baptist Church and the Nomi Network, this holiday season New Yorkers can shop locally with a global mission: to support interventions to stop human trafficking and help liberate the 32 million women and girls currently living in the harrowing straits of slavery. By promoting Nomi’s job training and placement programming for survivors and women at risk of human trafficking, Calvary is inspiring and mobilizing New Yorkers to take action on this important human rights issue,” said Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer.

“At our Holiday Pop-Up Shop, New Yorkers and visitors to our area will have an opportunity to invest in the lives of the hundreds of women who find hope through Nomi Network and their international efforts. At Calvary BaptistChurch, we are committed to extending God’s justice and compassion to those in our city and across the world, and, this holiday season, we are thrilled to partner with and host Nomi Network in their likeminded mission,” said Pastor Mike Luciano, Calvary Baptist Church.

“We all buy products on a regular basis, let’s cast our vote with every dollar against slavery and for the empowerment of vulnerable women. The Nomi Network model gives consumers the opportunity to create a ripple effect because when our women earns a viable income, she feeds and educates her children, stands up against her abusers and becomes a catalyst in her community. Her new way of making a living causes a ripple effect that reaches people far away, at the other end of the global supply chain,” said Nomi Network President Diana Mao.
