Why Gotham?

How might a church, committed to the renewal of the city, invest in the next generation to impact New York City’s culture and marketplace with the fullness of the Gospel?

In September 2008, Redeemer initiated an intensive, top-tier training program to equip participants for gospel leadership in New York City and the world.

The Gotham Fellowship is a nine-month learning community designed to broaden your understanding of and deepen your connection to God’s redemptive work by applying theology, spiritual practices, and cultural renewal to your work, your relationships, and New York City. Each Gotham class typically comprises 50 percent women and 50 percent men with varied professional and personal backgrounds. Cohorts will be organized by church affiliation.

The Gotham Fellowship provides three foundational elements needed for integration of faith and work:

THEOLOGICAL TRAINING
Drawing from the deep resources of the Reformed tradition, our program develops a worldview and fosters a commitment to consider how the gospel impacts every area of life, from personal relationships to the diverse culture of New York City.

SPIRITUAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Gotham cultivates spiritual growth that activates personal and professional development  through relationships, daily practices and projects.

COMMUNITY FORMATION
Gotham provides a community of peers, from diverse backgrounds and vocations, who are committed to each other’s spiritual growth and calling to serve the common good of the city.

PROGRAM DETAILS AND COMMITMENT

The Fellowship begins Labor Day Weekend and finishes Memorial Day Weekend. During these nine months, the Fellows meet two hours a week to discuss the extensive weekly reading of major texts from various eras of church history. Daily devotionals unite the group through guided scriptural and devotional readings. Monthly Saturday gatherings provide in-depth training and city excursions. Three retreats (Labor Day, mid-winter and late May) focus on personal reflection and spiritual formation.

The Fellows tuition fee helps offset program expenses, including reading materials, weekly meetings, monthly sessions and all three retreats. The fee is $2850 for Redeemer members, $3250 for Redeemer attendees, and $3600 for applicants from neighboring churches. Married couples receive a discount of 50% off each. Financial aid is available for all applicants and applications for financial aid will be sent out after final acceptance letters are sent.

We are also seeking donors who can enable us to provide financial aid, as needed. If you are interested in contributing to the scholarship fund or would like to find out more about applying for financial aid, please email gotham@redeemer.com.

Applications will be accepted in the spring for cohorts beginning in September. Fellows will be selected by an admissions committee from applicants who best demonstrate 1) spiritual maturity, 2) ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the program, and 3) commitment to the city.
