Premiere of
Award Winning
Play Red
Flamboyant
One of the things that Firebone Theatre is giving a new play or musical its first production. You saw them do it with their hit musical, Son of a Gun by Don Chaffer of Waterdeep, and with Chris Cragin-Day’s play, Emily starring Tony Nominee Elizabeth A. Davis. They are taking this track record to another level with their next project, Red Flamboyant by Don Nguyen, which includes naturalistic storytelling combined with fantastical aerial performance and traditional Vietnamese water puppetry. The award-winning-yet-unproduced play aims to offer compassion to the particular sufferings that HIV/AIDS victims endure in many Asian countries. The production will do this both through the story itself, and also by raising money for the Vietnam relief organization directed by the real-life Vietnamese woman who inspired this play.
Firebone is currently in the process of raising money toward this production. Learn more about the project and the artists involved, and see video footage from their Aerial Performance Workshop in October on their Red Flamboyant Indiegogo campaign. (Lots of great perks available!)
Story Synopsis:
Mrs. Hue lives in present day Vietnam with a small group of women who are all living with HIV/AIDS. Bricks smash the windows of their small house. The locals fear they will be infected by the women. Mrs. Hue is forced to see help from a stubborn government official to protect her group. Unlikely heroes emerge both in this world and the next as these poor women reach new heights of courage.
