NYC Arts When
Bloomberg
Leaves Office
By: Whitney Britt
What happens when Mike Bloomberg, the most visible public figure in NYC who supports the arts with his Office, his attendance, and his own personal philanthropy? The mayor is an outspoken advocate of the arts as an economic driver of the city, and has put his money where his mouth is, donating over $200 million in personal fortune, as well as $2.8 billion in city funds to cultural capital grants. He supports arts of sizes in all 5 boroughs from Lincoln Center to St. Ann’s Warehouse. While I do not doubt Bloomberg will continue his personal philanthropy, the larger concern is getting another visiible cultural cheerleader in the Mayor’s Office.
