The Clue of
Beauty
in Visual
Art: A Glimpse
Highlight

On Saturday, November 9, “The Clue of Beauty in Visual Art” Glimpse was led by Heather Lynn at The Art Studio NY on the Upper West Side as part of the Center for Faith & Work’s 2013 Humanizing Work Conference.  Organized around a pastels class taught by Jill Hotchkiss, all attendees came prepared with images of beauty or brokenness in the world and then transformed them into works of art that reflected those themes.  Following the class, Heather lead a discussion surrounding Revelation 21 and “The Clue of Beauty” excerpt from Pastor Tim Keller’s book The Reason for God, which revealed how God’s unending redemptive work through both the visual and performing arts can bring us closer to understanding our collective human experience and relationship to Christ.  At the end of the evening, everyone took home their unique paintings to remind them of how God has gifted us all with a creative spark.

CFW Glimpses were part of the 2013 Humanizing Work Conference. A Glimpse is a cultural event (1) based in New York City, (2) experienced in community, (3) which points toward evidence of God’s glory & sovereignty over both the brokenness & beauty of the culture we inhabit.
