The Redeemer Writers Readings Committee presents the panel discussion On Readings: How to Book Readings and Present with Confidence. Lancelot Schaubert will set the stage, giving us a Christian foundation from which we can build our confidence. Amelia Thompson will then present on how to read with confidence, offering tips and tricks for dealing with stage fright. Debra Ayis will offer practical guidance on how to find and book readings This panel will be moderated by Rae Printy and is in preparation for our annual Christmas reading in which all members are invited to share their works, as well as for writers looking to further establish their literary careers by booking readings.

Afterwards, we’ll break into critique circles where you can get feedback on your writing and presentation style. Please bring 1 to 2 pages (double spaced) of original writing in any genre for feedback.

We will conclude our fellowship with a special time to pray over our creative endeavors.

 (Due to tight building security, you will not be let up if your name is not in the security log. Therefore, please register 24-hours in advance to ensure your name is added. Please also arrive 15 minutes early to get through security on time. Once you arrive, please do not loiter in the halls or visit other groups.)

Debra Ayis is a Nigerian born, but New York-based writer and poet. She has been published in over 100 anthologies, magazines, etcetera in several countries. She has won various awards and has published three collections of poetry. She is a volunteer contributor to Our Daily Bread’s youth branch YMI (Why am I?), and was most recently published in “Life at a Crossroads”, the City University of New York (CUNY) Killens Review of Arts & Letters - Fall/Winter 2019; her website is www.valiantscribe.com. 

Lancelot Shaubert is a novelist, nonfiction writer, and poet whose work has been published in The New Haven Review (Yale’s Institute Library), The Misty Review, TOR (MacMillan), The Anglican Theological Review, McSweeney’s, Poker Pro’s World Series Edition, The Poet’s Market, and Writer’s Digest. Spark + Echo chose him for their 2019 artist in residency. Amelia Thompson is a poet, strategist, educator, and writer. She completed undergraduate studies at Vassar College and has a Master of Education from St. John’s University. She is a former middle school teacher and has led workshops on behalf of the Museum of the City of New York, NYC Department of Education, and Adelaide Sanford Institute.
