"The joy of the Lord is your strength." Nehemiah 8:10
Join us for our next Writers Group meeting on Wednesday, October 21 from 7 to 8 p.m. via Zoom. Registration is required. For our Writers Group Fall 2020 Semester we're finding inspiration from the Spirit--specifically the Fruit of the Spirit. Second up: JOY.
For a lot of people, the year 2020 has been an outright nightmare. The pandemic, along with political turmoil and social unrest, has brought anxiety, heartbreak, righteous anger and discord to many. Finding creativity in such turmoil is like trying to find the wind for your sails in the middle of the ocean, where there has been no trace of wind in what seems like a lifetime ago*.
Finding inspiration to write from a positive standpoint can seem doubly challenging. You are trying to muster up the creativity that came so naturally to you, but now it seems like you are searching for an illusion. You may ask yourself questions like, “Will I find joy in writing again?," "Can I write a story of hope and joy from a pit of despair?”.
Writers Group Co-Leader Debra Ayis will guide us in reflecting on drawing strength from the joy of the Lord from King David's arc: a man who appears to have grasped this truth more than most (Psalm 28:7, Psalm 16:11), we will reflect on relying on God's joy to carry us through emotional barriers to writing. Then, we'll break into smaller groups to share writing, discuss writing goals, encourage one another in writing and life, and pray. For inspiration listen to Joy Invincible, Switchfoot.
